Overview

Name | Version: sqncr x 1.4
Author: smallestofseeds
Device Type: MIDI Effect
Description: sqncr x is a simple four channel sequencer that feeds into Live's drum rack, the notes as indicated on the left of the device. It's main function is to create drum clips quickly and easily. Steps are controlled with a probability slider and each channel's length, timing interval, playback direction, and velocity can be independently set.

When you first load sqncr x all channels are turned on, and all steps are turned off. Here is a workflow example:

1. Set the length of a sequence by using the slider above the steps.
2. Draw in the number of notes you want, and their probability of playback.
3. Click the scramble button until you get a pattern you like.
4. Repeat this process for the other three channels.
5. Use the left and right buttons to fine tune the sequences and their relation to one another.
6. Use the playback direction, timing interval menus, as well as the velocity dials for added variation.
7. Record a clip.
8. Vary the sequences.
9. Record another clip.

And so on and so forth.

You can also simply draw in notes and probability exactly the way you want for any or all of the channels.

A few other notes:

I've run into a bug where if you load it into a Live project then close that project without using sqncr x, when you load the Live project again sqncr x won't run correctly. In this instance just delete it from your Live project and add it again.

I have found that if you use any other time signature besides 4/4 you may run into problems. I could not determine the reason why.

I did not name any of the elements (so that they show up in Live's menu for things like automation) because when I did it caused the device to not play back correctly. Being very new to Max for Live I could not figure out the problem. So just consider using this sequencer for quick and easy clip creation, and not much else.

VERSION 1.1 uploaded February 23, 2015

-Set the velocity to 100 rather than 127. 100 is the standard velocity when using a computer keyboard to test sounds, so having the velocity at 127 would sometimes result in a different sound than what you hear when testing sounds.
-Changed the note output to C1, D1, E1, F1 to align with A, S, D, F on a computer keyboard. This makes it easier to test sounds. The C1, C#1, D1, D#1 output aligned with A,W, S, E on a computer keyboard making it awkward.
-All channels are now on when loading the device, and can be turned off by clicking on the note indicator.
-Removed the random button, as it was more or less useless and only took up space.

VERSION 1.2 uploaded March 3, 2015

-Added dials to control velocity.
-Added dials to control randomization of velocity.

VERSION 1.3 uploaded March 4, 2015

-Added dials to control humanization.
-Uploaded a 16 step version: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/2864/sqncr-x16

VERSION 1.4 uploaded May 4th, 2015

-Unplugged humanization dials as they were causing problems. To add humanization to your clips I suggest using the groove feature in Ableton Live.
