Description: | Create a tuning system to match any acoustic sounds Out of tune instruments? Weird sounding pipes? Bottles in the kitchen cupboard? Use Scaleometer to play along with them all Capture the pitch of any collection of sounds you want, and play those exact pitches with any MIDI instrument you like. You can use also Scaleometer to play along with any drone. Set any continuous tone as a reference pitch, and use Scaleometer to harmonise with it. Step 1: Play in a sound you want to capture the pitch of Use the high and low pitch dials to choose which frequencies to focus on. Use the threshold dial to set a minimum volume to capture. Click on the audition button to hear the tracked pitch, and adjust the balance with the Dry/Tracked dial. The Note Snap button will change the settings to only change pitch when a new note is detected. Step 2: Press 'Save' to capture a sound as a MIDI pitch Rename the pitch will change the note name on the MIDI piano roll. Press 'Listen' to hear a saved pitch. Step 3: Add in any extra scale degrees you want Press the 'Extra scale degrees' button and toggle on or off any notes you want to add. The lowest saved note you have saved will be treated as the tonic, and any extra scale degrees will be calculated above that using Just Intonation intervals. Step 4: Export your scale as a .ascl file Press the 'export' button, give your scale a name, and choose somewhere to save it. Step 5: Drop your file into Ableton's Tuning section This will change the piano roll to match the pitches you've saved. Step 6: Go wild All your MIDI instruments will now match your own personal tuning. Happy playing! |
